Day 1: Exploring the capital of Lozère

Mende Lane

A stroll through the colourful streets of Mende

As you arrive hand in hand in the historic centre of Mende, you find yourself facing the imposing Notre-Dame & Saint-Privat Cathedral in Mende. Its two magnificent bell towers, standing parallel to one another, amaze you with their architectural contrast and sheer grandeur. The sun glinting off this limestone building dazzles you. You’re keen to find out more as you set off to explore the interior of this cathedral… Your tour of Mende continues through its colourful narrow streets. Pink, yellow, orange, green – the shades follow one another, each unique. Historic buildings steeped in history line the way before you. You’ll come across lovely murals along the way until you reach the Pont Notre-Dame. Spanning the River Lot, this bridge stands majestically, providing a passage from one side of the town to the other. What better way to round off this first day than with a sunset view from the Croix du Mont Mimat viewpoint on the hills above Mende…?

Make the most of the guided tours organised by the Mende Tourist Office and visit the cathedral, the 19th-century pharmacy in the former hospital, the town hall and the town’s historic centre.

Day 2: a morning of sport and an afternoon devoted entirely to wellbeing

The weekend continues with a challenging hike from Saint-Julien-Du-Tournel to its castle. Dizzying and quite a workout, this hiking trail will really give your calves a workout… The steep, narrow slopes won’t put you off; the rocky ledges and the sweeping horizon give you a sense of great tranquillity. The Mont-Lozère mountains offer an exceptional natural spectacle. As the pretty Château du Tournel stands in the distance, you’ll come across a few horses, hens, cows and a cockerel along the way, as well as some flowers and trees – let yourself be captivated by the scents of nature. You’ll enjoy a moment of escape and discovery in the heart of unspoilt countryside.
