TOURNEL CASTLE

The imposing ruins of the Château du Tournel still bear witness today to the presence of this 12th century barony which dominated the Causse de Mende as far as Vivaret, owning all of Mont Lozère. Several members of the Tournel family distinguished themselves through their poetic works. Two troubadours, Iseult de Chapieu and Azalaïs d'Altier, wrote famous poems in the Occitan language in the 13th century. Nowadays, the castle is being restored. Once within the walls of the castle, you can admire the vaulted rooms, but also the panorama of the Lot valley and the magnificent view of Mont Lozère.
