Malakoff chocolate bars

A history stretching back over 100 years

La chocolaterie Malakoff

What if we went back in time? It is 1855, in the aftermath of General Mac Machon’s victory at Malakoff, and Napoleon III asks the Saint-Étienne-based chocolatier Jean-Louis Pupier to create the famous Malakoff chocolate bar. Production, which had ceased in 1990, was resumed by Romain Chollier in 2011, much to the delight of Malakoff chocolate lovers.

The famous chocolate bars

Production has resumed at a former dairy near La Canourgue in Lozère. Romain Chollier, a modern-day Willy Wonka, works in his laboratory to create new and ever more varied recipes. Classic, hazelnut pieces, Gabin caramel milk, sugar-free, feuilletine… The list is long and the choice is a real dilemma. If we had to choose just one, we’d go for the sparkling milk chocolate bar to recapture that childhood sweetness. The secret to their success lies in recipes made with fine, high-quality ingredients, which have earned Malakoff’s chocolate products the ‘Sud de France’ label.
