Lozère’s must-see spring flowers

Broom: the gold of the Lozère countryside

From the very first weeks of spring, the hills and plateaus of Lozère are decked out in bright yellow thanks to the flowering broom. These hardy shrubs, typical of heathland and rocky terrain, brighten up the landscape with their golden clusters and give off an enchanting fragrance.

Daffodils and jonquils: a carpet of light

On the Aubrac plateaus, daffodils and jonquils form veritable carpets of light. These elegant flowers, with their white or yellow petals and delicate crowns, symbolise the rebirth of nature. A stroll amongst these vast expanses of flowers is an unforgettable experience. The flowering periods can be quite short, depending on the season.

The poppy, a splash of red in the fields

A symbol of spring and freedom, the poppy springs up in fields and along the wayside, adding a splash of vibrant red to the landscapes of the Lozère. A true haven for bees and other pollinators, this fragile and short-lived flower serves as a reminder of the delicate balance between nature and humankind.

Wild orchids: the hidden treasures of Lozère

Lozère is home to an impressive variety of wild orchids, some of which are so inconspicuous that it takes a keen eye to spot them. Among the most iconic species are the purple orchid, the pyramidal orchid and the bee orchid, whose petals perfectly mimic the appearance of an insect to attract pollinators. Spotting these wonders requires patience, but their rarity makes every discovery all the more precious.
