Delve into the museum’s history

The museum’s history began in 1820 with the aim of displaying artefacts unearthed during excavations at Gallo-Roman sites. It was in 1976 that the Musée du Gévaudan, then known as the Musée Ignon-Fabre, moved into the Hôtel de Ressouches. A testament to the history of Mende and Lozère, this mansion housed an electricity-generating plant for nearly a century. Today, you have the chance to enjoy a range of exhibitions in a historic building that takes you on a journey through time as you move from room to room.
