1. Choose accommodation in the heart of the countryside

To recharge your batteries, choose accommodation in the heart of the countryside in Lozère. It won’t be hard to find – the population density here is very low (Lozère is the least populated department in mainland France) and the countryside remains largely unspoilt. We recommend staying in guesthouses, holiday cottages or campsites, so you can get up close to the locals and enjoy genuine encounters. If you’d like to stay in a treehouse or experience a back-to-basics holiday in a caravan or yurt, opt for some unusual accommodation. For eco-conscious travellers, find eco-friendly accommodation that meets your expectations and needs.

2. Taking part in a sporting activity in the great outdoors

A week of exploration, pushing your limits and reconnecting with nature – make your dream come true. Monday is for hiking, Tuesday for mountain biking, Wednesday for a bit of rest, Thursday for horse riding, Friday for trail running, Saturday for a leisurely stroll, and Sunday for a spot of fishing or road cycling. What a programme for recharging your batteries in the heart of nature, whilst keeping active and discovering the landscapes of Lozère. A feast for the eyes whilst looking after your health – the ideal holiday!

3. A family holiday on a farm

Come on then, round up the whole family and set off on an adventure to experience rural life in Lozère first-hand. Just for you, here’s a rundown of all the benefits of a farm holiday for young and old alike: accommodation surrounded by nature, hands-on activities working closely with the animals, tasting local produce, workshops, and a warm, authentic experience with your hosts. A real paradise for a family holiday.

4. Plan a wellness holiday

How about taking a break from your daily routine to enjoy a holiday of pure rest and relaxation? Breathing deeply, meditating, sleeping, unwinding… Does that sound tempting? Take a deep breath – that’s exactly what awaits you in the heart of the Lozère countryside. The hardest part will be choosing between the spa resorts, yoga and sophrology retreats, and wellness breaks.

5. Discovering the flora and fauna throughout the seasons

With every change of season, nature in Lozère has some wonderful surprises and discoveries in store for you.

In spring, the flora adds a riot of colour to the landscape: broom, daffodils, wildflowers – what a magnificent sight! The highlight of the season is the transhumance in the Aubrac in May and on Mont-Lozère in June.

It’s time for the Aubrac cows and sheep to head off to spend the summer in the pastures. In summer, poppies and gentians come into bloom. It’s magical. Meanwhile, the impressive vultures soar overhead in the Gorges, and Przewalski’s horses live peacefully on the Causse Méjean.

As autumn sets in, the countryside continues to change, giving way to warm, vibrant colours, as well as chestnuts and mushrooms in the forests. There is one king of the season: the stag! The rutting season is in full swing – it’s quite an experience to witness.

At last, winter is here, and with it this beautiful blanket of snow – if the weather is on your side – to treat you to a magical experience at the Gévaudan Wolf Park and the European Bison Reserve in Margeride.
