Never before have so many trees been planted across the Earth’s surface. For several decades now, and even more so since the 2015 Paris Climate Agreement, this has been the watchword in the fight against deforestation, the loss of biodiversity and climate change.

Millions of hectares of eucalyptus and Douglas fir are gradually encroaching on natural habitats around the world, with native forests and savannahs being razed by bulldozers. Yet these fast-growing, water-hungry trees deplete biodiversity and are themselves more vulnerable to the risks posed by climate change, particularly mega-fires and pests.

In this documentary, François Xavier Drouet weaves together scientific explanations and first-hand accounts to expose the hidden truths behind a slogan that is too consensual to be honest. With footage that is at times astonishing, he dismantles the case for a false solution, one that primarily serves to perpetuate a predatory economic model.
