2018 – 90 mins – Arte France Distribution – France / French version
In Polynesia, a school of 700 sharks rules the pass of the Fakarava atoll. It is the largest known gathering of grey sharks to date. How do they behave? What are their survival and hunting strategies? The scientific team led by Laurent Ballesta is conducting a study on an unprecedented scale: fitting around forty sharks with microchips to track their movements during
night-time hunts. Never before studied on such a scale, the discovery of these behaviours may help to validate the hypothesis that there are more sophisticated group hunting patterns than meets the eye… To succeed in this scientific, technological and human endeavour, the team has been preparing since 2014 to dive… into the heart of the pack, without a cage or protection, and without bait or feeding. A world first.
