SWEET FRANCE

Douce France is a Franco-German film directed by François Chardeaux, released in 1986 and filmed in the Mende region. As the Germans invade the unoccupied zone in November 1942, young Frédéric is sent to live with his grandparents in a small village in the Haute-Lozère region, far from the war. There he meets Lise, a young German Jewish singer who has come to hide. In the heart of the Margeride forests, Frédéric lives with the young stranger, a story of friendship that blossoms into love. The screenplay is based on a short story by Michel del Castillo, which itself was inspired by a true story.
