THE TRUYERE

A quiet mid-mountain river and the main tributary of the Lot, the Truyère winds its way through the Massif Central for nearly 170 km. It rises in the heart of the Margeride mountains at an altitude of 1,450 meters.
Its acidic waters are home to brown trout with striking pigmentation—often displaying a vivid yellow hue when the fish bask on the sandy riverbed.
Populations of minnows and gudgeon—along with chub in the river’s lower reaches—coexist with the native trout. Downstream of Le Malzieu, perch and pike from the Grandvals reservoir (fed by the Truyère) compete with the trout for food.
Throughout the Lozère department, the Truyère is classified as a “Category 1” river.
