MERCURY FOREST

Relax in the peace and quiet of this huge and enchanting forest (11,000ha) just a few kilometres from Langogne where the river sources of Moure de la Gardille (1503m), Allier, Langouyrou and Chassezac all begin. It varies between 970 and 1503m in altitude. The farm that now lies in the heart of the forest was once the Mercoire Cistercian nunnery. In the 18th century, Mercoire Forest is where many people fell victim to the Beast of Gévaudan (1764 to 1767).
There are lots of things to do here: hiking (GR70 and PR trails), horse riding, mountain biking (Gévaudan VTT FCC area) etc.
