MALEPEYRE'S CLOG

Legend has it that Gargantua, passing through La Canourgue, forgot his shoe there. It stands about thirty meters high.

Upstream from the village of La Canourgue, this valley owes its unique character to a succession of dolomitic peaks, limestone cliffs, caves, and natural arches. These escarpments, emerging amidst wooded vegetation (Scots pines and white oaks), possess remarkable scenic appeal.

The rock formations and cliffs are prime nesting sites for cliff-nesting birds (peregrine falcon, Eurasian eagle-owl, red-billed chough, black kite, red kite, short-toed eagle). The Urugne Valley is one of the main wintering sites for the greater horseshoe bat.
