THE MARGERIDE AIR

Lake Charpal is the iconic feature of this introductory hike in the Margeride region. You'll have the opportunity to admire it from every angle, particularly from the highest point in the Margeride, the Truc de Fortunio. Depending on your imagination and experience, this route will evoke distant lands like Canada or the American West as you traverse its vast expanses, dense fir forests, and the magnificent Lake Charpal.

To start the route, head towards Chastel Nouvel and then continue on the D806 until you reach the Row of Trees.

Allow a full day for the route. Avoid low light conditions for sunset at Truc de Fortunio, as the valley is usually in shadow from this viewpoint at these times.
