WHY VICTOR HUGO?

Exhibition "Why Victor Hugo?" on Rue Saint Blaise in Meyrueis. The exhibition is open from June 10th to September 30th, from 9 am to 12 pm and from 2 pm to 7 pm. WHY VICTOR HUGO? For 70 years I've been mulling it over. "The eye was in the grave and watched Cain" and also: "It was snowing. We were defeated by its conquest. For the first time, the eagle lowered its head. Dark days!" That day I was 11 years old, when the teacher asked us to learn these two recitations during the year (by heart). Oh, it wasn't the word "by heart" that bothered me, but these surprising and powerful words that we had to understand. The "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" period was over. The name of Victor Hugo was imprinted on my memory forever. In my family, books hadn't yet found their way into the home, and perhaps life was difficult because she worked with her arms and muscles. Later, life became easier, and Victor Hugo remained a constant presence in my life. Then I had the pleasure of picking up a captivating book—a real tome—unfolding the life of Victor Hugo; this book was written by the academician Max Gallo. Max Gallo reveals, year by year, the incredible life of this Romantic writer, politician, Peer of France, Academician, without neglecting his family life and, I would say, his very private life. So I read and reread this book, much to the annoyance of my family. That's when the idea came to me: to share this book with you, through an exhibition on the life of Victor Hugo, year by year, following Max Gallo's format. A year-by-year overview of Victor Hugo's life, following Max's model. I haven't created anything new; I've simply adopted the trendy new motto, "copy/paste," without any commercial motives. I confess, summarizing his work was incredibly difficult. In the beginning, I included at least three or four pages per year, which I found essential and compelling. It was then that my family and friends advised me to shorten my summary. As a result, the page length has been reduced, obviously for the sake of clarity. To enhance the exhibition, I've included copies, drawings, paintings, and texts from Google and Wikipedia. I hope you enjoy following the story of Victor Hugo's life. (1802-1885, age 83), his youth shaped him and led him to become the man he was throughout his life: a Romantic poet, playwright, and politician whose convictions guided France. The exhibition is open to the public. It is designed like a book that you can explore at your leisure. A few additional books are available for you to read on-site.
