STAGE D’ÉCRITURE AVEC FABRICE MELQUIOT
The Saturday 06 March at 10 a.m00
(All periods)A workshop exploring the art of writing monologues, blending poetry and theatre, introspection and argumentation, using the cut-up technique.
Fabrice Melquiot is running a writing workshop dedicated to monologue writing, open to around ten participants, whether beginners or experienced writers. The workshop will explore the specificities of monologue writing, striking a balance between poetry and theatre, introspection and argumentation. Seated around a large table, we will write, read and discuss for six hours a day, drawing on the works of Sarah Kane, Bernard-Marie Koltès, Stephen King and others, in a spirit of curiosity, sensitivity and rigour. To nurture everyone’s creative endeavours, we will explore the ‘cut-up’ technique, a writing tool inherited from the Dada movement. The cut-up encourages the free-for-all fragmentation of text; it does not shy away from random creation or distortions of thought. We extract, we observe, we arrange, we listen, we discover and we delve deeper. It is a game accessible to everyone, an exercise in freedom that encourages letting go. During this workshop, we will write like thieves, like lab technicians, like children, with scissors in hand.
