Comprising three musicians, Saraï – which means ‘I shall be’ in Provençal Occitan – was born out of a collection of poems by women, spanning from the Middle Ages to the present day, sourced from the CirdÒc (International Centre for Occitan Research and Documentation). Eager to create a dialogue between women from vastly different walks of life who share a common language and form of expression – namely poetry – the trio weaves together the works of Louisa Paulin with the more contemporary pieces of Aurélia Lassaque, the Albanalenca, Bénédicte Bonnet or certain trobairitz, in a single, timeless musical journey. Through this selection of women’s poetry, set to music and carefully arranged, this repertoire explores the idea – as vast as it is intractable – of what love is. At times funny, touching, dramatic or mischievous, these songs depict the many facets of this magnificent emotion. The musical chemistry between Sophie Cavez on the diatonic accordion and Baltazar Montanaro on the baritone violin enhances the percussion and Juliette Minvielle’s sensitive voice, creating a timeless, gentle atmosphere.
