For nearly eight centuries, Saint Michael's Day has been celebrated in Meyrueis… The Saint Michael's Fair appears in the “Thalamus,†a collection of charters, customs, and privileges of Meyrueis, in Article 39 of the statutes of the community and town of Meyrueis, granted in May 1229 by the lords. This clause stipulates that all inhabitants must, under penalty of a six-penny fine, clean the streets and roads of the town in front of their door, from Saint Michael's Day until the fourteenth day following. This suggests that the fair then lasted two weeks. Today: it celebrates the quality of natural products from Lozère! After having celebrated the International Guild of Cheesemakers in 2002 and given birth to the most recent of the Lozère Gourmet Brotherhoods in 2003… The St. Michael's Fair invites you to make a pact with taste every last Sunday of September. The St. Michael's Brotherhood invites you to discover cheeses, cured meats, honeys, jams, and other treasures of our region. Artisans, producers from the Aigoual massif, fairground attractions, as well as various activities and entertainment (climbing, local folklore, demonstrations, etc.) will complete the program of this festive day in the Causse-Aigoual region.
