A few stories about our conversion to run-of-the-mill capitalism:
Andrej, a recent graduate, is struggling to find a job; Martina, from a well-off background, dreams of an organic farm but is stuck in a string of dead-end jobs; Mani, a brilliant academic, is unemployed; Freya, who’s just been made redundant, is desperate for a comeback; and Peter, who’s homeless, has become an expert in street marketing.
Without always realising it, they’re all engaged in a competition for survival that’s as despicable as it is human. An everyday struggle for these 21st-century ‘neo-savages’, who are both captives and zealous servants of a system supposedly on its last legs, yet which they themselves help to sustain.
A superb theatre production performed like a radio drama, complete with live sound effects. It captures the social conscience of the Petit Théâtre de Pain, which some first encountered in ‘Traces’, performed here some fifteen years ago. It’s cut from the same cloth – come along without a second thought.
