A STORY OF EMPOWERMENT WHERE DRAWING OFFER PROTECTION FROM THE FLAMES
When she comes home from work, Mum turns into Dragonne – her emotions are running wild! But Maggie is used to it: she dives underwater. Not for real, of course, but in her imagination! Maggie loves to draw and paint, and thanks to her drawings, she manages to calm Mum’s flames…
In this show, which places the visual arts at the heart of its narrative, Maggie manages to transform her Mum—who starts out as a dragon ablaze with fire—into a water dragon, a protector,
as conceived in Asian culture… The ambivalence of this dragon figure gradually makes it possible
to envisage a positive outcome, comfort and reconciliation…
What is truly beautiful about this show is that, ultimately, it is the child who teaches the adult to control their emotions. It is a story of empowerment in which the roles are almost reversed…
