Synopsis
An insatiable seducer, Don Giovanni goes from one conquest to the next without ever giving a thought to the consequences. When he attempts to seduce Donna Anna, a young noblewoman, her father, the Commendatore, steps in to defend her, but Don Giovanni kills him in a duel. He then continues on his reckless path, dragging in his wake Donna Elvira, a former conquest seeking to bring him to his senses, and Zerlina, a young peasant girl whom he in turn attempts to seduce. But the ghost of the Commendatore will return to haunt him and hasten his downfall…

Who is Don Juan? This is an age-old question, for this character – viewed over the centuries as a ‘noble yet wicked man’, a charming seducer or a toxic predator – defies any definitive description. From the breathtaking overture to the fateful dinner with the Commander, this dramma giocoso – a subtle blend of comedy and drama – leaves no one unscathed. Director Louisa Proske, making her debut at the Paris National Opera, sets the action in a grand hotel – a setting capable of transcending social structures and revealing the protagonists’ deepest fantasies.
