‘DANCES AND STRUGGLES’ highlights the essential role of dance in human history and takes the form of choreographed pieces accompanied by commentary, guiding us on a journey of discovery through a universal and extraordinarily diverse language. This dance-based lecture demonstrates how dances embody social and political struggles and peacefully accompany community movements around the world. On stage, we see flamenco steps – born of the fusion of Indian Kathak dance with the ‘Al-Andalus’ style – the footwork and hand movements of Pantsula, originating in the townships of South Africa, and the voguing poses emerging from New York’s African-American LGBT clubs.
The young dancers from the Étoile Barrabande dance school, having been trained by professionals beforehand, share the stage with the artists from the Dans6T company. The audience, too, is invited to join in the dance to experience the innate joy of dancing together.
An electrifying, optimistic celebration where dance regains its essential role as a means of collective expression and empowerment. Your body already knows it’s going to love it!
