France, 2026, 1h 42m – Directed by Gaya Jiji, starring Zar Amir Ebrahimi, Alexis Manenti and Amr Waked – Drama, suitable for ages 12 and over
Selma flees Syria, leaving behind a six-year-old son and a husband who has disappeared in the regime’s prisons. Upon arriving in Bordeaux, she meets Jérôme, a lawyer who helps her with her paperwork. Their love story will turn everything on its head.
Gaya Jiji’s feature film is anything but yet another film about the journey of migrants. It is, rather, a story of the love that can bind people together and the sacrifices they are prepared to make, precisely to protect those they love. A delicate film, in which hope sustains us.
