Amélie Malleroni and Yan Giraldou, fellow students at the École Supérieure de danse de Cannes, founded the Compagnie La Locomotive in 2007. Together, they have developed a unique artistic world, emphasising the passing on of knowledge and teaching through original, often multidisciplinary productions. Blending dance and theatre, ‘2’ draws its inspiration from two children’s books (‘C’est autant d’amour que je t’envoie’ by Colin Irving and ‘Duo Mambo’ by Wei Middag) which celebrate unconditional love, the diversity of human connections and the richness of the non-verbal interactions unique to childhood.The duo presents a work that speaks directly to children’s hearts, using sign language to bring words and feelings to life, in an intimate and magical atmosphere set to the rhythm of Vivaldi’s mandolin concerto and electro beats. The children are immersed in the cosy atmosphere of the characters’ budding bonds of camaraderie and tenderness, within the intimacy of a language they invent together, with or without words.
