Sainte Enimie, in the heart of the Gorges du Tarn
With its medieval character and the way it blends into the surrounding gorges, the village of Sainte-Enimie is renowned for its old cobbled streets and vaulted passageways. Dotted with wide staircases and pretty terraces, these features contribute greatly to its charm.
From its former monastery, you can see the refectory, a beautiful Romanesque chapter house. The 14th-century Romanesque church of Notre-Dame-du-Gourg has undergone a number of alterations over the years. You can also admire the statue of Saint Anne, displayed alongside contemporary ceramics illustrating the history of the village’s foundation.
Near the tourist office, the Burle spring – the starting point of the legend of Saint Enimie – will surprise you with its striking blue colour. On the banks of the Tarn, you can go for a swim or hire canoes and kayaks to paddle down the Gorges du Tarn.
La Garde Guérin, on the edge of the Cévennes
Known as the ‘Pariers’ since the 12th century, La Garde Guérin is a charming fortified village situated on the Régordane trail. Overlooking the Chassezac Gorges, visitors can explore the fortified walls which enclose the houses of the co-lords of La Garde, or the Chevaliers Pariers, and the castle.
