In the Tarnon Valley, at the foot of the Causse Méjean, Vébron is a Cévennes village with a shaded square, brought to life by a market on Saturday mornings in summer. Its Occitan name refers to the beaver, which is found in the river. Every summer, the International Film Festival brings the village to life. Perched on a schist outcrop, the castle known as ‘Châteauroux’ overlooks the valley, at the junction of ancient paths. The Church of Saint-Pierre, of medieval origin, was once part of the Abbey of Sainte-Enimie. Damaged during the Wars of Religion, it was rebuilt in 1687 and maintained by the de Bernis family. Now deconsecrated and restored, it still houses a 17th-century fresco and hosts cultural events. The Protestant church is notable for its coffered ceiling and wood panelling.
