USSEL FOOTBRIDGE

bit of history: construction began in 1920 to create a pedestrian bridge crossing the Chapeauroux stream at a place called "Ussel," and it was therefore named the "Ussel footbridge." The bridge was built by the villagers themselves; originally made of wood, it was decided by the town council at the time to reinforce it by rebuilding it in metal. Thus, it was rebuilt in iron by Mr. François Hillaire in 1936. More than 100 years later, the municipality of Auroux decided to restore this piece of local heritage. Indeed, bad weather and flooding had damaged it, and it had to be closed to the public for several years due to its dangerous condition. The work began in May 2022 and was completed at the end of October 2022, at which time it was inaugurated in the presence of numerous dignitaries from the State, the Department, and the Region. Today, hikers, tourists, and residents of the town can use it safely.
