THE VIRGIN OF THE ROCK – SERVERETTE
At the top of the hill, atop a jumble of granite boulders, the cast-iron statue of the Virgin Mary overlooks the village of Serverette. It measures 3.80 meters and weighs nearly 2050 kg. It was inaugurated on April 29, 1877. Since then, the villagers have maintained the custom of a religious gathering at its base every August 15th. Fireworks are set off there on that day. The site has been illuminated every night of the year since 1925. From the foot of this rock, one can enjoy a beautiful panoramic view of the village of Serverette, the Truyère River, and the Margeride mountains (interpretive panel).
