THE POMPIDOU TEMPLE

The Temple du Pompidou was built in the middle of the 19th century. It is a very sober and large building. We notice its bell tower, its unusual weathervane, an angel of the Apocalypse which gives the building an unexpected gravity reminiscent of the Day of Judgement. The frame of the entrance door with two Doric columns and a triangular pediment is also remarkable, in the neo-Gothic style.* The present Temple replaced the one above, which was "demolished to the foundations" in 1685, by order of the King.

*Inside, the preaching pulpit is beautifully crafted and is listed as a Historic Monument.
