TEMPLE OF THE MONTVERT BRIDGE

The temple at Pont-de-Montvert, built in 1828, is part of the movement to rebuild Protestant churches in the Cévennes region by Protestant communities. Their architecture is governed by a quest for solidity, a rejection of ornamentation, and extreme simplicity of form. The wooden galleries, the pulpit facing the congregation, and the pews constitute the entirety of the furnishings. Outside, a public space is laid out as a belvedere, and beyond it lies the municipal cemetery, also established in the 19th century.
