STATUE OF THE BEAST OF GÉVAUDAN

Created by sculptor Emmanuel Auricoste in 1958, it remains the first and certainly the most famous representation of the legendary beast. The story goes that in 1958, Auricoste created an iron statue, which he finished in the equipment garage in Marvejols, on the Place des Cordeliers. This work, bristling with protruding plates, was intended to be temporary, pending the final version cast in welded bronze plates. For this project, Auricoste partnered with Susse, a renowned foundry. Both names are engraved on the animal's hind legs.
