SAINT-PRIVAT-DU-FAU CHURCH

The magnificent church of Saint-Privat-du-Fau stands majestically on the mountainside, overlooking the Malzieu valley, the Aubrac plateau, and the Cantal mountains in the distance. Its bell gable is certainly the most remarkable of the bell towers in the Gévaudan region, with its three tiers of openings housing the bells, one of which dates from 1658. The church was likely built in the 12th century by monks from the Abbey of Pébrac, near Langeac, now in the Haute-Loire department. The church's facade dates from the 19th century, as indicated by the cartouche above the entrance porch, engraved with "1888." The entrance door is modern. The porch itself is Gothic. An oculus above the door allows light into the gallery inside. Inside, the church consists of a single nave, vaulted with a semicircular arch supported by transverse arches. The nave leads to four small chapels, each lit by a single-arched window.
