SAINT MAGDALENE CHURCH

The chancel of the church in Les Hermaux, the oldest part of the building, was originally the chapel of a 12th-century castle, now vanished. The five-sided Romanesque apse is divided into two levels, emphasized by a cornice resting on a row of billets. The semicircular arches spring from tall, embedded columns. Along with the north chapel, which has also retained its stonework, the chancel forms the oldest and most remarkable section. The massive bell tower, topped by a slender spire, was built in the 19th century.
