The Chapel of Saint Mary Magdalene, along with the former refectory, forms the only remaining building of the Sainte-Enimie monastery. This monastery, whose influence extended throughout the region for centuries, is believed to have been founded in the 6th century by Saint Ilère. Attached to the Benedictine abbey of Monastier-sur-Gazeille (43) in 951, it was one of the most influential monastic establishments until the French Revolution. The chapel bears the hallmarks of its era and the wealth of its builders: it is constructed in a refined Romanesque style, evident in the precision of the limestone masonry and its semi-dome vault. It can be seen through the entrance gate.
