In the Middle Ages, Muret was a seigneury dependent on Canilhac, and then, from 1380 onwards, on the Barons of Peyre. Saint-Laurent de Muret is a typical rural mountain village of the Aubrac plateau. It comprises 12 hamlets and 8 isolated dwellings. Granite predominates across the vast majority of the village's territory. Several interesting peaks dot the landscape, revealing the volcanic origins of the plateau, such as the Pic de Mus (1324 m), a magnificent viewpoint with a panoramic orientation table and a statue of Our Lady of the Mountain, or the Truc de Muret, which rises to 1244 m. Consider stopping in Saint-Laurent de Muret during your hike on the GR Tour des Monts d'Aubrac.
