SAINT BARTHOLOMEW'S CHURCH

Modern, Church and Priory

in LA TIEULE

Originally, the parish church of La Tieule, dedicated to Saint Bartholomew, was a simple rural chapel, as evidenced by an inscription dating from 1654. In 1808, due to population and economic growth, the village was separated from the parish of Banassac, and a new parish was created, which led to the construction of the church we see today. This church consists of a single nave and two chapels near the chancel. The polygonal apse, with a pointed arch vault, houses a monumental painted wooden altarpiece, composed of a large central painting (a Crucifixion) framed by columns and statues. The whole is surmounted by an entablature. The decorations mainly consist of wooden altars for the chapels and statues, notably a beautiful 17th-century Pietà, listed as a Historical Monument.
