PONT DE QUEZAC

According to the legend of Quézac's bridge, a farmer would have discovered, at the beginning of the 11th century, a miraculous statue of the Virgin ploughing his field. A first church would have been built during this time.

The devotion to the Virgin attracted many pilgrims. During the 14th century, indulgences were given to build a bridge to facilitate the access for pilgrims. In 1626, the second arcade on the north side fell in the river and was only re-established in 1633. In 1657, the large arcade also fell and was built back two years later.

During the 18th century, the bridge being damaged, a reconstruction was considered but delayed by several falls of the piece during the works, carried away by the river. Works were finished in 1738.

The bridge is formed of 6 arches, a big one, two medium, two small and one even smaller. The intermediate piles are protected by breakwaters.
