PALHERS

in PALHERS

Palhers was originally the seat of the Templar Knights' commandery. The name Palhers comes from the Occitan word for "straw barn." Surrounded by numerous farmers and artisans, the commandery remained prosperous and powerful until 1332. It was then passed on to the Hospitallers of St. John of Jerusalem, who held it until the French Revolution, when it became national property. In addition to its historical heritage, Palhers offers exceptional panoramic views. The "Split Mountain" walk will allow you not only to admire the commandery but also the Romanesque churches and chapels, and to discover surprising landscapes and vistas through the various hamlets of the commune.
