MUSEUM OF GÉVAUDAN

Open since 2022, the Musée du Gévaudan is a regional museum with a strong connection to the community. Admission is free, promoting accessibility for all, fostering audience loyalty, and supporting a circular economy. It is a multifaceted cultural institution, encompassing: – a Musée de France (Museum of France), – the Interpretation Centre for Architecture and Heritage of the Mende, Gévaudan & Mont-Lozère Region of Art and History, – a living space – lounge, book and games area, seed library, shop, and café. Located in the heart of Mende, the building includes 17th-century heritage spaces such as the Hôtel de Ressouches and the Salle des Vertus (Hall of Virtues). The collections cover a wide range of disciplines: archaeology, fine arts, natural sciences, ethnology, contemporary art, and more. They span all periods, from the earliest traces of life to the 21st century. Over one hundred events take place each year, including a major temporary exhibition.
