MONTRODAT

in MONTRODAT

Montrodat (originally Montroca, Monte Rocato, meaning "mountain of the rock") was a viscount's estate. In the Middle Ages, Montrodat was one of the twelve lordships that granted access to the Estates of Gévaudan; a toll was levied at its castle. Only a few traces of the castle remain: a section of the rampart in private cellars, the remains of a tower behind the town hall, and the stone coat of arms on its facade, which is believed to date from the 11th century. Today, Montrodat is a pretty, renovated village whose church stands next to a pleasant square, ideal for playing pétanque. It is surrounded by charming hamlets such as Inoce with its restored bread oven, Valadou with its breathtaking view of Marvejols, Bouldoire with its Saint-Jean chapel… Near Montrodat, you can see the dovecote on the road to Rieutort. Numerous walking and mountain biking trails lead from the Coulagnet valley to the summit of Truc du Midi (1000 m). You will come across many "chazelles" along the paths.
