Built in terraces on the hillside, the village of Montbrun overlooks the Gorges du Tarn and retains traces of a rich medieval past. As you wander through its narrow streets, carved coats of arms and ancient windows bear witness to the history of this village, where the presence of the lords of Montbrun is recorded as far back as 1053. Scarred by the Wars of Religion, the village was plundered and ravaged at the end of the 16th century, as was its castle, which no longer stands. The Church of Saint-Pierre, restored in 2009 and 2010, retains an apse of Romanesque origin, which was altered following these conflicts. A stroll through Montbrun allows visitors to appreciate its terraced architecture, its heritage features and its commanding position overlooking the Tarn valley.
