LE ROZIER

Located at the gateway to the Tarn and Jonte Gorges, at the confluence of the two rivers, the village takes its name from the rose gardens cultivated by the monks of Aniane Abbey, who built the Saint-Sauveur church there in 1705. They also cultivated roses all around the church. This place then became known as "Campus Rosarium." Called "Lou Rousio" in Occitan, it is now called "Le Rozier." Today, only the church remains of the monastery. Opposite Le Rozier, on the other side of the Jonte River, lies the village of Peyreleau, located in the Aveyron department, the starting point for exploring the Causse Noir plateau. The village is built on the left bank of the river and dominated by an old square tower, the last vestige of the former fortified castle.
