In the centre of the village of Bédouès, the Chapel of Saint-Saturnin boasts a remarkable collection of murals. Built in the 12th century in the Romanesque style, it was originally the village’s parish church. Damaged during the Wars of Religion in 1581, it resumed its original function following restoration, before becoming a funeral chapel in the early 19th century. Between 1838 and 1841, the Marquis Cabot de la Fare commissioned an Italian painter to create a series of frescoes there, inspired by 15th-century techniques. These paintings, which are what make the building so unique, bear witness to remarkable artistic skill. Open every day, all year round, the chapel invites visitors to discover the religious and artistic heritage of Bédouès-Cocurès.
