HOSPITAL CHAPEL – SAINT PETER'S CHAPEL

In the immediate vicinity of the castle, within the hospital grounds, you can discover the Saint-Pierre Chapel, built between 1958 and 1966. A remarkable example of contemporary religious architecture, it is the result of the collaborative work of patients from the psychiatric hospital, construction workers, and artists. All the patients' contributions were indeed integrated into the construction: the pillars, for example, are made of blocks of varying shapes, some cubic, others without a distinct form—the fruit of collective participation. The interior sculptures were created by the Ardèche artist Roger Marion using local stone: Serverette granite and pink sandstone from Le Rouget. Note the representation of the four Evangelists on either side of the altar: the angel for Matthew, the lion for Mark, the bull for Luke, and the eagle for John. The Chapel is open from May 2nd to September 22nd, Monday to Friday, from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm, and on a few rare occasions not to be missed!
