GRANDRIEU
The name Grandrieu comes from the location of the houses on a rocky spur between two streams, the "ru" des Mèdes and the large "rieu" which is crossed by a so-called Roman bridge. The highest point is at the Roc de Fenestre at 1486 meters altitude. The canton is crossed by the Via Agrippa. The cross in the Place Saint-Michel appears to date from the 17th century. Its prismatic crossbar has buboes. On the reverse is a depiction of a naive Christ and a mysterious inscription. Only the crossbar is black, contrasting with the light color of the shaft.
