FORMER SAVINGS BANK

An architectural gem of the early 20th century, the building, which has housed the library since 1985, was built by and for the former Marvejols Savings Bank. In 1899, the bank commissioned its construction. Erected in the middle of a 2,600 m² park, extending from the public garden, the building's location affords it exceptional visibility. Built of red brick and stone, contrasting with the surrounding greenery, this "hotel in a park" borrows from the Art Nouveau style with its staircase leading to its arched entrance. The building boasted all the modern comforts of the time. It was even equipped with an innovative exterior gas lighting system, allowing it to be illuminated on July 14th and August 15th, the town's patron saint's day! In 1912, a clock was affixed to the exterior facade of the building, now offering a very practical new service to the approximately 3900 inhabitants of Marvejols: the time! From now on, there's no excuse for being late!
