ENGLISH TOWER

The English Tower is the remnant of a castle belonging to the barony of Randon, one of the eight baronies of Gévaudan between the 10th and 17th centuries. Its construction dates back to the Middle Ages, commissioned by Lord Philippe de Randon. Legend has it that upon returning from a crusade, the lord found his castle completely destroyed. He therefore decided to rebuild a new castle overlooking the entire region. The English Tower is the only remaining vestige of this fortress, known for having been besieged by Bertrand du Guesclin's troops during the summer of 1380. Built of granite blocks, it retains three stories. The village's name derives from this castle, built "new" by Philippe de Randon.
