CROSS OF APCHER CASTLE

This small village in the commune of Prunières is well worth a visit, and its narrow streets are popular with tourists in the summer. It was once the center of the Barony of Apcher when it held sway over northern Gévaudan. The association "Les Amis du Site d'Apcher" (Friends of the Apcher Site) has restored and promoted the site, which includes the remains of the castle, a Romanesque chapel, and a square tower. This beautiful stone cross is set directly into the granite. On its front face, one can see a crucifix, a heart, and the date 1754.
