CHURCH OF SAINT PETER AND SAINT PAUL

Romanesque, Church and Priory

in SAINT-PIERRE-DE-NOGARET

From the Middle Ages until the French Revolution, this village was part of the Nogaret district. This territorial subdivision encompassed all the villages and hamlets in this part of the territory, made up of numerous steep-sided valleys between the Lot River and the Aubrac plateau. The parish church of Saint-Pierre-et-Saint-Paul stands in the center of the village of Saint-Pierre-de-Nogaret. The use of red sandstone in the construction of a large part of the building gives it its distinctive color. The church is accessed from the south side, along the cemetery, which also offers a lovely view of the surrounding area. Inside, the layout is organized around a central nave of three bays with side aisles. The interior is bright thanks to large windows. A wooden gallery opens onto the nave, which is accessed by a small staircase on the left.
