CHURCH OF LAVAL-DU-TARN

Modern, Romanesque, Church and Priory

in LAVAL-DU-TARN

The church of Laval-du-Tarn is a Romanesque church with a single nave of four bays, a chancel, and two apses. The oldest part of the building, comprising the chancel and the north apse, probably dates from the 12th or 13th century. Five-bay arcades, separated by engaged columns, adorn the walls of both spaces (the chancel and the apse). This decoration, very characteristic of the Romanesque style, suggests that the original plan was trefoil-shaped. The south apse, the gallery, and the western part of the building are later additions, probably from the 17th century. The bell tower was built later, in the 19th century. As for the stained-glass windows depicting the Holy Family, the Baptism of Christ, and Our Lady of Lourdes, they date from the 20th century.
