The village developed from 1062 onwards around the Saint-Sauveur-de-Chirac Monastery and encompasses 16 villages and hamlets. Chirac's wealth was built on the cultivation of saffron, vines, and wool until the Second World War. The village stretches from the banks of the Colagne River to the foothills of the Aubrac plateau and boasts a rich historical and vernacular heritage scattered throughout the Rieu district, the Place de la Tour, Place de Montjezieu, Place de Soun Chirac, and the Colagne Bridge. In the commune, mid-mountain agriculture is primarily focused on livestock farming and milk production. The village offers a variety of services, shops, and activities.
